Spring Garden Ranch
My grandfather was a horse trainer in New York at Belmont and Saratoga. When I learned that the Spring Garden Ranch Training Center was so close, I thought my daughter would enjoy seeing how her great-grandfather supported his family. And, needless to say, we love horses! The red clay track was huge and there were some horses with their trainers in the buggies going around it. Read more… We were mesmerized watching the way the horses moved their legs as they are trained to do being standardbreds. They are so gorgeous, all sleek and shiny! My daughter and I grabbed a bite at the trackside restaurant and ran into the assistant manager. She spent a few minutes telling us about how the horses are trained and the history of the ranch. I didn't realize that the Spring Garden Ranch Training Center is the largest in North America for standardbreds. If that's not impressive enough, it's the second largest training center in the world! The restaurant overlooks the track so you can either watch from inside or take your food outside to some tables on the patio. We spent several hours at the ranch and can't wait to go back. I want to see one of the qualifying races they hold on Tuesdays but have to be back there before they leave to go on the racing circuit the end of April.  Erin Caine Eustis         |
